City of Fairbury City Council met Jan. 5.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

1. Call to order – Mayor Slagel called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

2. Mayor Slagel directed the Clerk to call roll and the following members of Council answered present: Gary Norris, Steve Endres, Jon Kinate, and Gerald Hoffman. Charles Hoselton, Bruce Weber and Bill Schmidgall were absent.

3. Pledge of Allegiance

4. Motion to approve the Consent Agenda – Motion by Norris, second by Kinate to approve the following items on the Consent Agenda:

A. Minutes from the December 15, 2021, council meeting

B. Voucher Invoice Register listing the bills

C. Treasurer’s Cash Report (second meeting of the month)

D. Check Register (second meeting of the month)

E. NONE

F. Overtime Report

Motion carried 4-0. YES-Norris Endres Kinate Hoffman

5. Mayor Slagel opened Public Comment and the following persons provided comments:

6. Reports of Departments

→ Streets & Fire – Martin Steidinger, Superintendent & Fire Chief was absent

→ Sewer – Brad Duncan, Superintendent – no report

→ Water – Mike Mellott, Superintendent was absent

→ Police – Robert McCormick, Chief no report

→ City – Brett Ashburn, Superintendent reported

• The first round of utility bills have been sent to landlords

• The Boys and Girls Club is removing the carpeting and replacing with laminate flooring

→ Legal – Steven Mann, City Attorney – no report

7. Reports of Aldermen

→ Alderman Norris complimented Martin and crew on the streets after the first winter storm

→ Alderman Endres – no report

→ Alderman Hoselton was absent

→ Alderman Kinate – no report

→ Alderman Weber was absent

→ Alderman Hoffman – no report

→ Alderman Schmidgall was absent

10. New Business – Discussion/Action Items

A. Motion by Endres, second by Hoffman to approve Mayor Slagel’s appointment of James Tipton to the City Council of the City of Fairbury, Illinois. Motion carried 4-0. YES-Norris Endres Kinate Hoffman

Attorney Mann swore in Alderman James Tipton; Alderman Tipton took his place at the council table

B. Motion by Norris, second by Endres to increase the price of pool passes to $75 for an individual, $145 for a family and $5 daily admittance. Pool prices have not been increased since 2011. Motion carried 5-0. Yes-Norris Endres Kinate Hoffman Tipton

C. Motion by Kinate, second by Endres approved Resolution No. 2022-1-5 appointing Matt Davis to the Zoning Board of Appeals for a 5-year term. Motion carried 5-0. YES-Norris Endres Kinate Hoffman Tipton

D. Motion by Kinate, second by Norris to approve Ordinance No. 2022-1 annexing property on W Pine Street to the City of Fairbury. Motion carried 5-0. YES-Norris Endres Kinate Hoffman Tipton
