On Friday, 5/27/2022, from approximately 1:00-3:00 p.m., Chief Simington and other members of the Bloomington Police Department will be participating in a neighborhood walk. The walk will be in the 600 block of both West Jefferson Street and West Monroe Street and conclude in the 700 block of West Monroe Street.
During the walk, officers will be knocking on doors in the hopes of speaking with community members in an informal setting. The goal of the neighborhood walks is to strengthen the relationship between the Bloomington Police Department and members of the community. The walks are designed to start conversations with citizens in a setting most comfortable for them.
Chief Jamal Simington stated, "The neighborhood walks will give the Bloomington Police Department the opportunity to strengthen bonds and build trust with the community we serve. The trust created will allow for collaborative problem solving, crime prevention, and overall safer neighborhoods. I am very excited to meet members of the community at their homes."
Currently two community walks are planned. The first one occurring on Friday, 05/27/22, from approximately 1:00-3:00 p.m., on West Jefferson Street and West Monroe Street. The second will be on Friday, 06/17/22, on Dry Sage Circle from 1:00-3:00 p.m.
