Illinois Wesleyan University's women's volleyball team is set to host its third and final tournament Friday-Saturday, Oct. 28-29. The Illinois Wesleyan Classic III will mark the conclusion of the regular season for the Titans (15-10, 3-4 CCIW). Including IWU, the tournament will feature Millikin University, St. Norbert College, and No. 9 Wittenberg University.
Illinois Wesleyan will open tournament play with a crucial College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin match against Millikin (20-8, 5-2 CCIW). The match will serve as senior day for the Green and White. IWU will honor Dana Kiszkowski (Schaumburg, Ill.-Schaumburg), Ellie Eager (Mendota, Ill.-Marquette Academy), and Evy Makris (Orland Park, Ill.-Sandburg) before first serve at 7:30 p.m Friday, Oct. 28.
This will mark the 55th meeting between the two conference rivals. Millikin holds a slight 28-26 advantage over IWU, but the Titans have been victorious the last two battles. The last time the two teams faced off happened Nov. 4, 2021. Illinois Wesleyan swept the Big Blue to advance to the CCIW Tournament Championship for the first time since 2018, ending Millikin's 2021 season. The Titans went on to win the tournament championship and secure a bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Tournament for the first time since 2018.
On the second day of the tournament, the Green and White will take on St. Norbert (15-10, 10-3 NACC) at 11 a.m., then will conclude its regular season with a match against No. 9 Wittenberg (19-3, 7-0 NCAC) at 2 p.m.
The match against St. Norbert will mark the first time the two teams have faced off since Sept. 14, 2012. IWU has won two of the three contests against the Green Knights, having won the most recent battle in four sets.
The Titans opened their 2022 campaign against Wittenberg Sept. 2 at the Mount St. Joseph tournament in Cincinnati, Ohio. IWU swept the Tigers with scores of 25-20, 25-20, 25-23.
Illinois Wesleyan enters the tournament off a sweep over CCIW foe Wheaton College Tuesday, Oct. 25. Millikin also swept its last opponent, North Central College, Oct. 25. Wittenberg defeated DePauw Tuesday night in three sets to close out a perfect North Coast Athletic Conference season. St. Norbert enters off a five-set victory over Marian University Wednesday, Oct. 26.
