City of Fairbury City Council met Aug. 3

City of Fairbury City Council met Aug. 3.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

1. Call to order – Mayor Slagel called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

2. Mayor Slagel directed the Clerk to call roll and the following members of Council answered present: Gary Norris, Steve Endres, Jon Kinate, Gerald Hoffman and James Tipton. Charles Hoselton, Bruce Weber and Bill Schmidgall were absent.

3. Pledge of Allegiance 

4. Motion to approve the Consent Agenda – Motion by Kinate, second by Tipton to approve the following items on the Consent Agenda:

A. Minutes from the July 20, 2022, council meeting

B. Voucher Invoice Register listing the bills

C. Treasurer’s Cash Report (second meeting of the month)

D. Check Register (second meeting of the month)

E. NONE

F. Overtime Report

Motion carried 5-0. YES-Norris Endres Kinate Hoffman Tipton

5. Mayor Slagel opened Public Comment and the following persons provided comments: 

⮚ Matt Curl, owner of the Fairbury American Legion Speedway, provided an update on the Prairie Dirt Classic event held on July 29th & 30th 

⮚ Diane Pawlowski, owner of Antiques and Uniques, added that about 50% of her business over the PDC weekend were out-of-town shoppers attending the race 

6. Reports of Departments 

→ Streets & Fire – Martin Steidinger, Superintendent & Fire Chief reported 

• He will have numbers for the fire department flat bed at the next meeting 

→ Sewer – Brad Duncan, Superintendent reported

• A sewer department employee gave his 2-week notice

→ Water – Mike Mellott, Superintendent was absent

→ Police – Robert McCormick, Chief was absent

→ City – Brett Ashburn, Superintendent was absent

→ Legal – Steven Mann, City Attorney – no report

7. Reports of Aldermen 

→ Alderman Norris – no report

→ Alderman Endres – no report

→ Alderman Hoselton was absent

→ Alderman Kinate reported on an Oak Grove Road constituent’s inability to haul the new garbage tote to Pine Street come winter time. Street Superintendent Steidinger indicated it would okay for the tote to remain on Pine Street at all times. 

→ Alderman Weber was absent

→ Alderman Hoffman – no report

→ Alderman Tipton – no report

→ Alderman Schmidgall was absent

13. Motion by Kinate, second by Hoffman to enter Executive Session at 6:46 p.m. 

A. Personnel – Section 2(c)(1) – Employee hiring, firing, compensation, discipline and performance. (Note: An independent contractor is not an employee). 

Motion by Norris, second by Kinate to enter Open Session at 7:34 p.m.

14. Adjournment – Motion by Norris, second by Kinate to adjourn at 7:34 p.m.
