Village of Gridley Board of Trustees met Nov. 7.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Village of Gridley was held at the Village Hall on Monday, November 7, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. Susan Laiming opened with a word of prayer.

President Benedict called the meeting to order and directed the Clerk to call roll, and upon roll call, the following Trustees answered present: Michael Finck, Susan Laiming, Keri Hany, Jay Kiefer and Mick Finck. Quorum present. Employees Mark Peterson and Jen Hany were present.

Jeff asked if there were any corrections or additions to the October meeting minutes. There were none. Mick made a motion to approve the minutes and Keri seconded the motion. Roll call: Michael Finck-yea, Laiming-yea, Hany-yea, Kiefer-yea, Mick Finck-yea. All present voted in the affirmative. Motion carried.

Board reviewed the “Bills received by Clerk.” There were no additions. Michael made a motion to approve the bills and Susan seconded the motion. Roll call: Michael Finck-yea, Laiming-yea, Hany-yea, Kiefer-yea, Mick Finck-yea. All present voted in the affirmative. Motion carried.

Board reviewed the Treasurer’s Report. After discussion, Susan made a motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report and Keri seconded. All present answered in favor.

Jeff Benedict reported to the board in October that Kyle Cobbley had resigned and asked the approval of the board to appoint Richard Martin to fulfill Kyle’s term. Michael Finck made a motion to approve the appointment of Richard Martin to fill the term vacated by Kyle Cobbley. Jay seconded. Roll call: Michael Finck-yea, Laiming yea, Hany-yea, Kiefer-yea, Mick Finck-yea. All present voted in the affirmative. Motion carried.

Michael made a motion to adjourn. Susan seconded. . Roll call: Michael Finck-yea, Laiming-yea, Hany-yea, Kiefer-yea, Mick Finck-yea. All present voted in the affirmative. Motion carried.

Richard Martin was administered his affirmation for service on the board of trustees.

Michael presented Ordinance #641, Tax Levy Ordinance. The total amount levied for the 22-23 fiscal year is $174,995.00. After discussion, Michael made a motion to pass tax levy Ordinance #641. Susan seconded. Roll call: Michael Finck-yea, Martin-yea, Laiming-yea, Hany-yea, Kiefer-yea, Mick Finck-yea. All present voted in the affirmative. Motion carried.

Michael presented Ordinance #642; an Ordinance Abating the Tax heretofore levied for payment of debt service on the general obligation bond. Michael made a motion to pass Ordinance #642. Keri seconded. Roll call: Michael Finck-yea, Martin-yea, Laiming-yea, Hany-yea, Kiefer-yea, Mick Finck-yea. All present voted in the affirmative. Motion carried.

Michael presented the board with a spreadsheet showing the cash on hand in various accounts. The current CD rates are more than the money market rate so the sheet showed the interest that could be earned on various CDs for a 12-month period. After discussion, Susan made a motion to purchase the recommended CDs at the current interest rate of 1.51% or better. Jay seconded. Roll call: Michael Finck-yea, Martin-yea, Laiming-yea, Hany-yea, Kiefer-yea, Mick Finck-yea. All present voted in the affirmative. Motion carried.

Susan reported that the village needs to purchase some new Christmas lights. After discussion, Susan made a motion to spend up to $750 for new lights. Jay seconded. Roll call: Michael Finck-yea, Martin-yea, Laiming-yea, Hany-yea, Kiefer-yea, Mick Finck-yea. All present voted in the affirmative. Motion carried.

Keri reported that Christkindl has a house tour on Thursday, December 1, Friday evening is a live Nativity and singing groups. The committee asked that third street by the park and part of Center be closed. The committee is also asking for a donation from the village. Susan made a motion to donate $1,000 to Gridley Christkindl. Michael seconded. Roll call: Michael Finck-yea, Martin-yea, Laiming-yea, Hany-yea, Kiefer-yea, Mick Finck-yea. All present voted in the affirmative. Motion carried.

Jeff reported that the property owner who had filed a petition to lower their assessed value by more than $100,000 has withdrawn their petition.

Jeff reported that Hoerr Constriction will be coming the third week of November to camera the storm sewer from 2nd to 7th on Market St.

Susan reported that a new bench has been donated to the Veteran’s Memorial by the Rinkenberger family.

Mick made a motion to adjourn. Richard seconded. Roll call: Michael Finck-yea, Martin-yea, Laiming-yea, Hany-yea, Kiefer-yea, Mick Finck-yea. All present voted in the affirmative. Motion carried.
