Men’s Volleyball Drops Close Five-Set Battle to Lewis
McKendree University men's volleyball fell to Lewis University in a five-set game on Friday evening at the Melvin Price Convocation Center. The Bearcats move to 6-8 overall on the season and 1-6 in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association.
McKendree began with a 2-0 lead, defeating the Flyers 25-23, 25-20 in the first two sets. However, Lewis would win three straight by scores of 25-22, 25-21, and 15-10.
Three Bearcats recorded double-figure kills including redshirt junior outside hitter Kyle Wilson with 16 kills, freshman opposite side hitter Bryce Wetjen with 15 kills, and freshman middle blocker Rolen Lively with a career-high 12 kills. In the three sets, Wilson posted a season-high .542 hitting percentage. Redshirt senior middle blocker Daniel Duggan snagged eight kills for a team-high .636 hitting percentage.
Defensively, Lively led with five blocks while graduate student Francisco Comas and junior setter Tyler Poulsen each tallied eight digs.
The Bearcats narrowly outhit the Flyers with a .288 hitting percentage for 60 kills while Lewis posted a .286 hitting percentage for 57 kills. McKendree also topped the blocks with 9.0 to Lewis's 6.5.
Coming up, McKendree will host Loyola Chicago on Friday, March 10 at 6 p.m. McKendree's game with King University originally scheduled for March 10 has been canceled.
