City of Fairbury City Council met Aug. 16.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

1. Call to order – Mayor Slagel called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

2. Mayor Slagel directed the Clerk to call roll and the following members of Council answered present: Gary Norris, Steve Endres, Charles Hoselton, Jon Kinate, Bruce Weber, Jim Tipton, and Bill Schmidgall. Jerry Hoffman was absent.

3. Pledge of Allegiance

4. Motion to approve the Consent Agenda – Motion by Kinate, second by Endres to approve the following items on the Consent Agenda:

A. Minutes from the July 5, 2023, council meeting

B. Voucher Invoice Register listing the bills

C. Treasurer’s Cash Report (second meeting of the month)

D. Check Register (second meeting of the month)

E. 205 E Wanda Ln - 105 sq ft @ $2.50 sq ft = $262.50

F. Overtime Report

Motion carried 7-0 YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Weber Tipton Schmidgall

5. Mayor Slagel opened Public Comment and the following persons provided comments:

6. Reports of Departments

→ Streets & Fire – Martin Steidinger, Superintendent & Fire Chief reported -

• Road work in front of Dave’s Supermarket is complete

• There is a Truck Plow going out for bid in Carbondale Township in September

→ Sewer – Bruce Pride, Asst. Superintendent - absent

→ Water – Mike Mellott, Superintendent - absent

→ Police – Robert McCormick, Chief reported

• Our cadet is graduating academy next Friday.

→ City – Brett Ashburn, Superintendent reported –

• All utilities are disconnected from the Old Hospital

• Leak detection services have located multiple smaller leaks

→ Legal – Steven Mann, City Attorney – absent

7. Reports of Aldermen

→ Alderman Norris - none

→ Alderman Endres –

• Inquired if IDOT can come soon to patch Route 24

→ Alderman Hoselton – none

→ Alderman Kinate -

• Inquired if Conxxus is live for all of City residents

→ Alderman Weber reported

• The Sewer Plant golf cart is in

→ Alderman Hoffman – absent

→ Alderman Tipton – none

→ Alderman Schmidgall – none

A. Motion by Kinate, second by Norris to approve appointment of Kelly Honegger as a Library Board Trustee. Motion carried 7-0 YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Weber Tipton Schmidgall

B. Motion by Schmidgall, second by Weber to approve an ordinance annexing 1010 E Elm Ln into the City. Motion carried 7-0 Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Weber Tipton Schmidgall

C. Consideration of quotes to clean up electric for Downtown lighting/replace speaker system
