City of Fairbury City Council met June 19.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

1. Call to order – Mayor Slagel called the meeting to order at 6:32 p.m. 

2. Mayor Slagel directed the Clerk to call roll and the following members of Council answered present: Gary Norris, Steve Endres, Jon Kinate, Bruce Weber, and  Jim Tipton. Charles Hoselton, Jerry Hoffman, and Bill Schmidgall were absent. 

3. Pledge of Allegiance 

4. Motion to approve the Consent Agenda – Motion by Endres, second by Norris to approve the following items on the Consent Agenda:  

A. Minutes from the June 5, council meeting  

B. Voucher Invoice Register listing the bills 

C. Treasurer’s Cash Report (second meeting of the month) 

D. Check Register (second meeting of the month) 

E. Sidewalk requests as suggested by the Street Superintendent 

F. Overtime Report 

Motion carried 5-0 YES-Norris Endres Kinate Weber Tipton  

5. Mayor Slagel opened Public Comment and the following persons provided  comments: 

➢ Wayne Varner commented on tall grass and dogs. 

6. Reports of Departments 

→ Streets - Lonnie Rhoads, Superintendent reported 

➢ D & D completed the spray patch  

→ Fire – Josh Hoselton, Chief - absent 

→ Sewer – Bruce Pride, Asst. Superintendent reported 

➢ Counter top repair is needed at the sewer lab 

→ Water – Mike Mellott, Superintendent – none 

→ Police – Robert McCormick, Chief - absent 

→ City – Brett Ashburn, Superintendent reported – 

➢ Verizon plans to upgrade the cell tower to 5g, no timeline at this time. 

→ Legal – Matt Schrock, City Attorney – absent 

7. Reports of Aldermen 

→ Alderman Norris - none 

→ Alderman Endres - none 

→ Alderman Hoselton – absent 

→ Alderman Kinate – none 

→ Alderman Weber - none 

→ Alderman Hoffman - absent 

→ Alderman Tipton reported the memorial bench at North Park for Carol Aberle is  damaged – working to repair it. 

→ Alderman Schmidgall – absent

10. New Business – Discussion/Action Items 

A. Motion by Endres, second by Weber to approve an ordinance annexing certain territory  to the City of Fairbury – Boys & Girls Club. Motion carried 5-0 YES-Norris Endres Kinate  Weber Tipton 

11. Other Items for Discussion & Information 

➢ BSA Troop 1870 is hosting a fair in North Park from 12-4 p.m. on June  22nd 

➢ The Dominy Library is asking for a donation of 200 daily passes for  summer reading program rewards 

12. Public Comment

13. Executive Session 

Motion by Kinate, second by Norris to enter Exec Session @ 6:48 p.m. 

A. Personnel – Section 2(c)(1) – Employee hiring, firing, compensation, discipline and  performance. 

Motion by Norris, second by Weber to enter Open Session @ 6:53 p.m.  

ACTION FROM EXECUTIVE SESSION 

NONE 

14. Adjournment – Motion by Weber, second by Tipton to adjourn at 6:54 p.m. Alexandria Reis, City Clerk
