Illinois House Republicans are advocating for legislation aimed at supporting seniors. Representative Dennis Tipsword emphasized the importance of prioritizing the needs of seniors, stating, "We must always look out for our seniors and I will continue to advocate for legislation that prioritizes their needs."
The USDA has predicted record corn and soybean yields in Illinois this year. The median corn yield is expected to be 227 bushels per acre, while soybeans are projected at 70 bushels per acre. Despite these high yields, farmers face lower prices for their crops combined with increased costs for fuel, equipment, seed, and chemicals.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) reported a rise in the state's unemployment rate to 5.2 percent in July, an increase of 0.2 percentage points from June. Nonfarm payrolls saw an increase of 12,900 jobs during the same period. Sectors with notable job gains included Government (+11,400), Private Education and Health Services (+3,400), and Other Services (+2,300). However, Manufacturing (-2,500), Leisure and Hospitality (-1,500), and Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (-800) experienced declines.
As families prepare for the new school year amidst ongoing inflation concerns, suggestions have been made to help save money during this period.
Drivers are reminded to adhere to safety laws when approaching school buses picking up or dropping off students. Penalties for illegally passing a stopped school bus include fines and suspension of driving licenses.
