The Illinois State men's golf team concluded their final round in Bark River, Michigan, with a score of 281 (-7), marking the sixth-lowest score of the day among a competitive field that included teams from the Big Ten, SEC, and Big 12. The competition featured Georgia, ranked within the Golf Coaches Association preseason top-25.
Purdue emerged victorious with a three-round total of 846 (-18). Following Purdue were Boise State (859), #21 Georgia (861), Michigan (865), Miami (Ohio) (874), UCF (875), and VCU (878), with Illinois State University (ISU) finishing ninth.
Leading ISU was TJ Barger, who tied for 22nd place after shooting a final-round 68, equaling his collegiate low round. Barger's consistent performance included birdies on his second and fourth holes, ending the front nine at one-under par and finishing four under par for the round.
Alex McCulla finished one shot under par for the final day with five birdies and four bogeys. He tied with Pietro Pontiggia, ISU's first-day leader, for 27th place overall at 220. Pontiggia ended his final round even-par with five birdies.
Senior Will Troy completed the tournament tied for 49th place with a total score of 224. His two-under final round was highlighted by an eagle and a birdie in his last two holes.
Maxence Faucquez wrapped up his debut collegiate tournament placing 76th with a score of 236 after a two-over final round that included two birdies.
Jack Paeglow, competing as an individual, shot three-over in his final round to finish tied for 59th at 228.
The Redbirds will next compete in the Bearcat Invitational in Cincinnati, Ohio, hosted at Coldstream Country Club in two weeks' time.
