Illinois State Athletics has announced the launch of The Battle Bird Society, an exclusive giving program designed to provide substantial resources for the entire athletics department. This annual leadership society aims to offer additional opportunities to Illinois State University (ISU) student-athletes and programs competing in 19 sports.

The landscape of college athletics is undergoing significant changes, with factors such as the transfer portal, NIL (Name, Image, Likeness), and the amateurism model altering the field. Despite these shifts, ISU Athletics maintains its mission of achieving academic and athletic excellence while preparing students for future leadership roles.

"We are excited to officially launch the Battle Bird Society and look forward to the opportunities it will provide for our student-athletes and programs," said Illinois State Interim Director of Athletics Dr. Jeri Beggs. "This annual leadership society will allow us to raise dollars specific to helping all 450+ student-athletes and our 19 varsity sports. The landscape of college athletics seems to be changing daily; however, this initiative will allow us to continue providing the necessary support for our student-athletes, coaches, and programs to win championships."

The Battle Bird Society derives its name from the Battle Bird, a significant part of ISU Athletics' gameday tradition symbolizing dedication to Illinois State and a bond among student-athletes past and present.

This society aims to enhance the student-athlete experience and elevate ISU programs by promoting a culture of athletic and academic excellence, competing for championships, enhancing relationships with alumni and supporters, growing resources through external relationships and private giving, and preparing student-athletes for life after ISU.

Key areas of impact include capital projects, facility enhancements, team travel, health and nutrition initiatives, as well as coaches' and staff retention. Donors can contribute at least $5,000 annually over up to five years ($25,000 total). These funds are intended to support various departmental needs outside scholarship support.
