Illinois State redshirt junior TJ Barger has been named the opening Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week for the 2024-25 season following his performance at the Island Resort Intercollegiate in Bark River, Michigan.
Barger tied for 22nd overall in a competitive field that included two Big Ten programs (Purdue and Michigan), a school from the SEC (Georgia), and one from the Big 12 (UCF). Notably, Georgia is ranked inside the Golf Coaches Association preseason Top-25.
The Bloomington native recorded rounds of 76 (+4), 74 (+2), and a career-low-tying 68 (-4) in the final round, culminating in a total score of 218.
This accolade marks Barger's first career honor. The Redbirds will compete next on September 16-17 at the Bearcat Invitational, hosted at Coldstream Country Club in Cincinnati, Ohio.
