Illinois State soccer (1-3-1, 0-0-0 MVC) fell Thursday night 4-0 to Big Ten opponent Northwestern (4-2-1, 0-0-0 Big Ten) at Adelaide Street Field in Normal, Illinois.

The Redbirds struggled to generate chances against the Northwestern attack, which scored in the 14th, 36th, 63rd, and 77th minutes. Illinois State fell behind early and was unable to recover. The Wildcats out-shot Illinois State 13-5.

Junior Abby Hall led Illinois State with two shots, including one on frame in the 70th minute. Sophomore Aniya Seymore also put a shot on goal in the 78th minute.

Despite the scoreline, goalkeeper Madi Valenti made several notable saves for Illinois State. In the 30th minute, she dove right to save a shot on the near post and stretched to get a glove on another save in the 37th minute. Valenti finished with five saves after making four stops in the first half.

The Redbirds will next head to Macomb on Sunday for a road match against Western Illinois at 1 p.m. CT. The match will not be broadcasted.
