Led by a record-setting performance by senior Macy Ludwig, the Illinois Wesleyan University women's golf team climbed the leaderboard to finish 11th at the Redbird Invitational on Monday, Sept. 9. The Titans topped three Division I programs at the 54-hole event hosted by Illinois State University at Weibring Golf Club.
IWU shot a final round of 308 to conclude the tournament with a score of 937. The eighth-ranked Titans bested Indiana State, IU Indy, and Valparaiso. The Green and White's 'B' team also beat Valpo, carding a 319 to post a total of 953.
Ludwig set the program's 54-hole scoring record as she fired an even-par 72 for the third consecutive round. Finishing with a three-round mark of 216, Ludwig broke the record of 218 set by Emma Thorman at the 2023 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championship. The Effingham, Ill., native garnered a fifth-place finish in the 93-player field.
Illinois State ran away with the team title with a score of 849 as Morgan Jones and Jinyoung Yun tied for medalist honors. Jones went on to win in a playoff. Little Rock took second place at 884, with Butler placing third (890).
The Titans now turn their focus to the IWU Fall Classic. The Green and White's annual home fall tournament is scheduled for Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 14-15, at Ironwood Golf Course.
