The Illinois State Gymnastics team participated in a preseason exhibition scrimmage against the University of Illinois on Thursday. This event served as an early opportunity for the Redbirds to test their routines ahead of the official start of the 2025 season on January 3rd, when they will compete at Missouri.
During the exhibition, Illinois State achieved a team score of 194.850. In individual performances, Alana Laster secured first place in the all-around category with a score of 39.150. Mya Robinson followed in second place with a total score of 38.950, while Sara Wabi and newcomer Jaly Jones tied for third place, each scoring 38.550.
In specific events, Robinson and Jaye Mack tied for first on vault alongside Illinois' Mareli Muller, each earning a score of 9.800. Wabi excelled on bars with a top score of 9.850, while Julia Heiner tied for second with a score of 9.800. On beam, Laster shared first place honors with Olivia Coppola from Illinois as both scored 9.850. On floor exercise, Mack, Wabi, and Laster all achieved scores of 9.850 to tie for first.
The Redbirds are now preparing for their season opener in Columbia, Missouri against Missouri Tigers in a quad meet that also includes Ball State and Southeast Missouri State.
