BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's volleyball team is set to travel north to Whitewater, Wisconsin, for a midweek match against the fourth-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Wednesday, September 11. The Titans (4-2) aim to hand the Warhawks (7-0) their first loss of the 2024 season. The match will commence at 7 p.m. inside the Kris Russell Volleyball Arena.
Illinois Wesleyan comes off a successful weekend at home with victories over DePauw University, Loras College, and Webster University on September 6-7. Juniors Taylor French (Romeoville, Ill.-Plainfield East), Kannyn Boyd (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.-Mt. Pleasant), and Hannah Tellor (Metamora, Ill.-Metamora Township) earned Crafted Classic All-Tournament Team honors for their performances. Boyd was also named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, September 9, after accumulating 50 digs, 13 assists, and five aces in ten sets over the weekend.
French leads the team's offense with 82 kills and an average of 3.90 per set. Her points per set average of 4.83 ranks her 22nd nationally. Freshman Alex Bardouniotis (St. Charles, Ill.-St. Charles North) follows with 43 kills while senior Morgan Harrington (Plainfield, Ill.-Plainfield East) has recorded 40 kills this season.
Fifth-year Jordan Pierce (Bonfield, Ill.-Herscher) leads IWU's setters with 99 assists at an average of 7.07 per set; senior Abby Erdman (Aurora, Ill.-Metea Valley) and sophomore Sophia Feeney (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) have contributed with 53 and 51 assists respectively.
Defensively, Boyd tops the team with 101 digs averaging 4.81 per set; French has added another 65 digs while Pierce has contributed with forty digs this season.
Sophomore Eleanor Palmer (Chicago, Ill.-DePaul College Prep) leads in blocks with twelve total blocks including five solo stuffs; Tellor follows closely behind with eight blocks while Harrington rounds out the top three blockers with seven blocks.
The history between IWU and UW-Whitewater dates back to their first meeting in1995; UW-Whitewater holds a dominant record winning twenty-one out of twenty-three encounters between these two teams including their last meeting on September24th2022 when UWW secured victory in four sets.
