Following a record-setting weekend at the Redbird Invitational, Illinois State golfers Jinyoung Yun and Morgan Jones were two of the three golfers named Missouri Valley Conference Co-Golfers of the Week.
The pair shared medalist honors at the Redbird Invitational, achieving three-round scores of 209, which are tied for the second-lowest tournament score in program history. Jones – who had rounds of 70, 67, and 72 – tied the school single-round scoring mark in the second round with her 67, while Yun posted steady scores of 69, 70, and 70.
For Yun, the reigning MVC Golfer of the Year, this is her fourth career Golfer of the Week honor. Jones – a transfer from Auburn – earned her first.
In setting individual marks, the Redbirds tied the school single-round record during their first round with a score of 282 (-6), before surpassing that total with a now-record 281 (-7) in the second round. Behind their final round score of 286 – also one of the lowest single-round scores in program history - ISU's total score of 849 is eight strokes better than their previous school tournament record set last season at the Clash at Boulder Creek.
For ISU, ten out of eleven lowest tournament scores in program history and thirteen out of fourteen lowest single-round scores have been achieved since 2021.
The Redbirds will test their tournament win streak on September 23 and 24 when they travel south to compete in the Johnie Imes Invitational hosted by the University of Missouri.
