Rep. Tipsword reported on various activities and developments in his district this week.

During a visit to Heartland Community College’s Normal campus, Rep. Tipsword attended the President’s breakfast and presentation in the Agriculture Complex. Dean of Health Sciences Kelly Pyle shared plans for the future of HCC's Health Sciences programs.

A new study from the Better Business Bureau indicates an increase in investment scams, particularly those involving cryptocurrency and romance.

In preparation for Route 66's centennial celebration in 2026, the Illinois State Museum is collecting stories from individuals who have experienced the Illinois segment of this historic highway.

The General Assembly monitor reported largely flat state revenues for August 2024. The monthly report tracks state general funds revenues, which amounted to $3,485 million in August 2024—an increase of $50 million (1.5%) from August 2023. This modest rise masks a decline in real state income due to inflation outpacing revenue growth.

Personal income tax receipts fell by $54 million from August 2023 to August 2024. The overall employment picture in Illinois has deteriorated with unemployment rising from 4.4% in July 2023 to 5.2% in July 2024.

Small businesses and manufacturers are facing increased financial burdens due to "stacked costs," leading to declines in output and orders, layoffs, and plant closures.

Progress continues towards establishing San Damiano College for the Trades in Central Illinois. Scheduled to open in fall 2025 on the grounds of the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis near Springfield, this institution will focus on carpentry, plumbing, and electrical contracting within a Catholic educational framework aimed at young male applicants.

The Illinois Department of Agriculture will distribute nearly $525,000 over three years to support the state's specialty crop industry.

Finally, there is growing concern about the monarch butterfly potentially becoming an endangered species. Efforts are underway across Illinois to help protect monarchs and other pollinators.
