The Illinois Wesleyan University women's volleyball team secured a significant victory against the 21st-ranked Cornell College Rams on Saturday, Sept. 14, in Mount Vernon, Iowa. The Titans triumphed in five sets with scores of 21-25, 25-18, 25-16, 23-25, and 15-7. This win improved IWU's record to 6-4 while Cornell fell to 4-6.

Illinois Wesleyan outperformed Cornell with a total of 56 kills on a .262 attack percentage compared to the Rams' 50 kills on a .161 clip. The Titans also led in assists (50-48), digs (67-56), aces (11-8), and blocks (11-6).

Junior Taylor French from Romeoville, Illinois led the Titans with 17 kills. Junior Hannah Tellor from Metamora, Illinois tied her career-high with 14 kills on an impressive .636 attack percentage without committing any errors. Senior Morgan Harrington from Plainfield, Illinois added another ten kills on a .400 clip.

Sophomore Sophia Feeney and senior Abby Erdman contributed significantly with assists totaling 24 and 23 respectively. Freshman Alysa Lawton led the defensive efforts with a team-high of 21 digs.

The match saw several critical moments that highlighted IWU's performance. After losing the first set, the Titans quickly responded by dominating subsequent sets through strategic plays and key contributions from multiple players including French, Tellor, Bardouniotis, Palmer, Harrington and Erdman.

The decisive fifth set started strong for IWU as they opened up with a block by Palmer and French followed by an ace from Erdman leading to an early lead which they maintained until closing out the set at 15-7.

Looking ahead, Illinois Wesleyan will face Wheaton College in their next match scheduled for Wednesday, Sept.18 at Shirk Center.
