The Illinois State men's golf team concluded their tournament in Cincinnati, Ohio, securing the 16th position among a competitive field. The event featured participants from five Big 12 schools and one each from the ACC and SEC.
Aiden Cudney and Alex McCulla led the Redbirds on the final day, each scoring a two-over 73. TJ Barger followed closely with a score of 74.
Looking ahead, the Redbirds will compete in their third tournament of the season at the Purdue Fall Invitational in West Lafayette, Indiana, on September 22 and 23.
Louisville emerged as the team champion with a six-under 846 over 54 holes. Tournament host Cincinnati finished second with an even-par 852. Other notable finishes included Kansas (855), BYU (858), Iowa State (860), Furman (860), Augusta (863), Middle Tennessee (867), Little Rock (867), Florida Gulf Coast (867), Kentucky (869), Sam Houston (872), UNCG (873), Memphis (873), Chattanooga (879). Illinois State finished with an overall score of 884, while UCF and Southern Miss rounded out the field with scores of 889 and 892 respectively.
Individually, Cudney tied for 36th place with a total score of 219 in his first collegiate tournament. His final round included two birdies and four bogeys. McCulla tied for 47th overall with a score of 220, featuring three birdies in his final round. Barger ended tied for 60th place with a total score of nine-over 222 across three rounds.
Pietro Pontiggia recorded a final-round score of five-over-76, tying for 81st place with an overall score of thirteen-over-226. Will Troy completed his tournament with a seven-over-78 in the final round, tying for the 88th position with an aggregate score of twenty-eight-over-228.
