City of Fairbury City Council met Aug. 21.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

1. Call to order – Mayor Slagel called the meeting to order at 6:32 p.m.

2. Mayor Slagel directed the Clerk to call roll and the following members of Council answered present: Gary Norris, Steve Endres, Jon Kinate, Bruce Weber, Jerry Hoffman, Jim Tipton, and Bill Schmidgall.

3. Pledge of Allegiance

4. Motion to approve the Consent Agenda – Motion by Schmidgall, second by Kinate to approve the following items on the Consent Agenda:

A. Minutes from the August 7, council meeting

B. Voucher Invoice Register listing the bills

C. Treasurer’s Cash Report (second meeting of the month)

D. Check Register (second meeting of the month)

E. 212 S 4th St 442 sq ft x $2.50 = $1395

F. Overtime Report

Motion carried 7-0 YES- Norris Endres Kinate Weber Hoffman Tipton Schmidgall

5. Mayor Slagel opened Public Comment and the following persons provided comments:

➢ Nathan Alksmis shared concerns for elementary students waiting for the bus, with the lack of stop sign on the corner of 6th and Elm Street

➢ Mayor Slagel gave the dedication plaque to the family of former Alderman Charles Hoselton Sr

6. Reports of Departments

→ Streets - Lonnie Rhoads, Superintendent –

➢ Oil & chip was completed

→ Fire – Josh Hoselton, Chief - none

→ Sewer – Bruce Pride, Asst. Superintendent - none

→ Water – Mike Mellott, Superintendent – none

→ Police – Robert McCormick, Chief reported – none

→ City – Brett Ashburn, Superintendent –

➢ Basketball Courts at Marsh Park are coming along

➢ Water Dept employee Bob Ziegenhorn’s retirement party is at noon on 8/21/24 at City Hall

➢ A committee meeting will be at 6pm on August 28th

→ Legal – Matt Schrock, City Attorney - none

7. Reports of Aldermen

→ Alderman Norris reported –

➢ The pool has been emptied for the end of pool season

→ Alderman Endres - none

→ Alderman Kinate –

➢ Inquired about the swearing in of new police officers

→ Alderman Weber - none

→ Alderman Hoffman - none

→ Alderman Tipton reported –

➢ Thanked the Street Dept. on behalf of the Garden Club for repairing the broken bench that was dedicated to the life of Carol Aberle

A. Motion by Kinate, second by Hoffman to approve the swearing in of Charles Hoselton Jr to the City Council of the City of Fairbury, Illinois. Motion carried 7-0 YES Norris Endres Kinate Weber Hoffman Tipton Schmidgall

B. Motion by Hoffman, second by Weber to approve a quote for lab equipment for Water Treatment Plant. Motion carried 8-0 YES Norris Endres Hoselton Jr Kinate Weber Hoffman Tipton Schmidgall

C. Motion by Kinate, second by Schmidgall to approve amendments to the Municipal Code Book, Chapter 6: Refuse and Garbage. Motion carried 8-0 YES Norris Endres Hoselton Jr Kinate Weber Hoffman Tipton Schmidgall
