Illinois State advances four players on day one of ITA Collegiate Invitational

Illinois State University concluded the first day of the 67th ITA Collegiate Invitational in San Diego with four wins in singles matches. The event features a competitive field including teams from USC, UC-Riverside, Kennesaw State, University of San Diego, Utah State, and the University of Arizona.

In singles play, Tomas Valencia defeated San Diego's Kasday in straight sets (6-4, 6-4). Caden Scarlett overcame UCR's Aarav Sane with a score of 7-5, 6-4. Valencia also secured a win against Bradley from USC with scores of 3-6, 7-6, and 7-5.

In doubles action, Tom Bevan and Jett Leong faced Justin Lamy and Aarav Sane from UC-Riverside but were defeated by a score of 6-3. At the No. 2 doubles spot, Scarlett and Tomas Valencia were bested by Connor Church (USC) and Anthony Weingarten (KSU) with a set defeat of 6-2.

The Illinois State team will continue their participation tomorrow at 3 p.m. at the Skip and Cindy Tennis Center on the campus of the University of San Diego.

Qualifier No.1: Valencia (ISU) def. Kasday (USD) 6-4, 6-4

Qualifier No.2: Lamy (UCR) def. Ostro (ISU) 6-4, 7-5

Qualifier No.3: Stelse (UA) def. Bevan (ISU) 6-0, 6-1

Qualifier No.4: Scarlett (ISU) def. Sane (UCR) 7-5, 6-4

Qualifier No.5: Alkotop (USU) def. Dibildox (ISU) 5-7, 5-7

Doubles:

Qualifier No.1: Lamy/Sane (UCR) def. Bevan/Leong (ISU) 6–3

Qualifier No.2: Church/Weingarten (KSU) def.Scarlett/Valencia (ISU), 6–2
