McCulla rebounds as Redbirds stand fourth at Badger Invitational

Alex McCulla recovered from a challenging opening round to score a 69 (-3) in the second round of the Badger Invitational, positioning the Redbirds in fourth place with one round remaining.

Illinois State University (ISU) completed the second of three rounds with a one-over 289, bringing their total to 571. They trail behind Wisconsin (561), Long Beach State (563), and Northern Illinois (563). The schools trailing ISU include Washington State (572), Southern Miss (574), Nebraska (575), Memphis (577), Minnesota (580), South Dakota State (590), Ball State (592), Southern Illinois (593), Western Kentucky (593), Winthrop (594), VCU (598), and Green Bay (608).

The final round will see the Redbirds, Washington State, and Southern Miss teeing off on Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m. Alex McCulla and Aiden Cudney will start from the sixth hole, Will Troy from the fifth hole, Pietro Pontiggia and TJ Barger from the fourth hole. Francis Bautista will start from the 18th hole as an individual competitor.

Barger is currently tied for fourth place heading into the final round, while Pontiggia is tied for 17th. Troy stands tied for 32nd after two rounds, with McCulla moving up to tie for 38th thanks to his strong second-round performance. Newcomers Cudney and Bautista are tied for 66th and 79th respectively.

McCulla's second round included an eagle, two birdies, and six pars on his first nine holes. Despite two bogeys on his back nine, he finished strong with a birdie on his final hole.

Barger maintained consistency with another sub-par round of two-under 70, achieving seven birdies and eight pars throughout his day.

Pontiggia started even par after three birdies over five holes but faced challenges on his back nine before ending with a two-over 74.

Troy had a mix of one birdie and twelve pars in his four-over 76 second round following an initial two-under 70.

Cudney scored one birdie and eleven pars in his second-round score of 78 while Bautista recorded one birdie and nine pars.
