If you have unclaimed property with the state, you could receive a check in the mail soon.
"I am thrilled to announce that Illinois residents will be receiving over $13 million in unclaimed property," said Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs. "This is part of our ongoing efforts to return money to its rightful owners."
The program aims to reunite residents with assets such as forgotten bank accounts, insurance policy proceeds, and other financial properties. According to Frerichs, these funds often come from dormant accounts or abandoned safe deposit boxes.
"We encourage everyone to check our website or call our office if they believe they might have unclaimed property," Frerichs added. The state treasury has streamlined the process for claiming these assets, making it easier for individuals to verify their eligibility and submit claims online.
Residents who are eligible will receive notifications via mail with instructions on how to claim their funds. The initiative reflects a broader trend of states taking proactive measures to ensure that unclaimed properties are returned efficiently.
"Returning this money helps stimulate local economies and provides an unexpected boost for many families," noted Frerichs. He emphasized that even small amounts can make a significant difference in people's lives.
