Illinois State women's tennis achieves five wins on MVC championships' first day

The Illinois State women's tennis team achieved notable success on the first day of the MVC Individual Championships at XS Tennis Village in Chicago, Illinois. The team secured four victories in singles matches and one in doubles.

In the singles category, wins were claimed by Nuria Sanz, Nicole Iosio, Zoe Limparis, and Sophie Marie Lowe. In doubles play, Elena Jankulovska and Nuria Sanz triumphed over UNI's Sudsaard and Peterson with a score of 8-2.

"We had some missed opportunities today and tough matches. It was a long day after a rain delayed the start. We will look to recover and bring good energy to start the day tomorrow," head coach Maja Kovacek stated.

The results from singles matches included Silva from VU defeating Pomarolli from ISU with scores of 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 (7-2), Ushio from UIC overcoming Caculovic from ISU at 6-4, 6-1, Stone from VU besting Lindh from ISU with scores of 6-2, 7-5. Meanwhile, Sanz defeated Gonlusen from MOST with scores of 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 6-2; Iosio beat Sudsaard from UNI at 6-0, 6-1; Lowe won against Hermanova from MUR with scores of 5-7, 6-2, 7-5; Limparis defeated Mylavarapu from UNI at scores of 7-6 (7-1), and Kelly overcame Limparis with scores of 6-3, 6-3.

In doubles competition results: Zholdakova/Getty (BEL) defeated Caculovic/Lindh (ISU) with a score of 8–5; Pukhina/Tseng (BRAD) bested Pomarolli/Iosio (ISU) also at an identical scoreline; while Jankulovska/Sanz managed to secure their win against Sudsaard/Peterson (UNI).
