A balanced offensive performance by the Illinois State volleyball team led to a 3-1 victory over Missouri State on Friday night at the Hammons Student Center in Springfield, Missouri. This win marks back-to-back victories for the Redbirds, improving their record to 7-9 overall and 2-1 in Missouri Valley Conference play. Meanwhile, the Bears' loss drops them to 6-10 overall and 0-4 in league play.

The Redbirds' success was attributed to a balanced offensive effort with four players achieving double figures in kills. In set one, Illinois State took an early lead with an 8-1 run but eventually fell behind as Missouri State secured a late victory at 25-21. The second set saw Illinois State establish an early lead and maintain it for a decisive 25-17 win.

In set three, after trailing initially, the Redbirds tied the score at 8-8 and continued to battle until they pulled ahead with a late rally, winning the set 25-21. Set four remained competitive until Illinois State's significant run gave them control of the match. The Redbirds closed out with a final kill from Caitlyn Little, securing another 25-21 set victory.

Key performers for Illinois State included Aida Shadewald with 17 kills and Sammi Bunch contributing 23 digs. Mekaila Aupiu provided crucial support with her assists tally reaching 48.

Illinois State will continue their road trip as they face Southern Illinois on Saturday at Carbondale.
