The Illinois State women's tennis team secured four singles victories and one doubles win on the second day of the MVC Individual Championships at XS Tennis Village in Chicago.

In singles, Silvia Pomarolli, Lana Caculovic, Nuria Sanz, and Elena Jankulovska achieved wins for the Redbirds. Caculovic advanced due to an injury default. Sanz overcame Halbersztadt in a three-set comeback victory. Jankulovska started strong by winning the first set but lost the second set 4-6 to UIC's Brion before clinching a 7-5 win in the third set.

In doubles play, Elena Jankulovska and Nuria Sanz defeated Rodriguez/Liu from UIC with an 8-3 scoreline. The duo aims to claim the MVC doubles championship as play continues into day three.

Head coach Maja Kovacek expressed satisfaction with her team's performance: "I'm really proud of the effort today across the board. Elena (Jankulovska) and Nuria (Sanz) especially played great doubles and won tough singles matches. Nuria was down 1-4 in the third set and came back to win 7-5," Kovacek stated.

The tournament will resume at 9 am tomorrow with all championship and third-place matches scheduled.

Following this event, Illinois State will participate in ITA Regionals hosted by Ohio State University from October 10 to October 14 before returning to Illinois for the EIU Panther Invitational in Charleston.
