The Illinois State women's tennis team concluded the MVC Individual Championships with a strong performance in Chicago, Illinois. Nuria Sanz secured the Flight Three title after a close match against Kikawa from Murray State, winning 7-5, 7-6 (7-5). Head coach Maja Kovacek expressed her satisfaction with the team's performance on the final day of the tournament, highlighting Sanz's exceptional play and composure throughout.
In addition to Sanz's victory, teammates Nicole Iosio and Elena Jankulovska also won their singles matches. In doubles competition, Jankulovska and Sanz reached the championship match but were defeated by Campigotto and Alexeyeva from Murray State. Last season, Murray State claimed the MVC Championship title.
This win marks Nuria Sanz's second consecutive Missouri Valley Individual Championship. She previously won the flight five championship bracket last year.
The Redbirds will next compete at the ITA Regionals in Columbus, Ohio, hosted by Ohio State University from October 10 to October 14. Following this event, they will participate in the EIU Panther Invitational in Charleston, Illinois.
