Illinois Wesleyan University's women's volleyball team is preparing to host Carthage College in a significant College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) match on Wednesday, October 9. The game will take place at the Shirk Center at 7 p.m.
Both teams are currently undefeated in CCIW play. Illinois Wesleyan (11-5, 4-0 CCIW) recently defeated No. 15 North Park University and eighth-ranked Millikin University, handing them their first league losses. These victories led to the Titans sweeping the CCIW Player of the Week awards. Junior Taylor French was named hitter of the week, sophomore Sophia Feeney received setter of the week honors, and junior Kannyn Boyd was recognized as defensive player of the week.
French leads the Titans' offense with 243 kills, averaging 4.19 per set, ranking her among the top players in Division III. Junior Hannah Tellor follows with 130 kills and an impressive .382 attack percentage, leading the CCIW and ranking 18th nationally. Freshman Alex Bardouniotis has contributed 116 kills for an average of 2.15 per set.
Feeney has been instrumental in orchestrating the team's offense with 263 assists this season, while senior Abby Erdman has added 206 assists. Fifth-year Jordan Pierce has contributed with 119 assists. At the service line, French leads with 35 aces, followed by Bardouniotis with 31 and Feeney with 16.
Defensively, Boyd leads with a team-best 221 digs, averaging 4.91 per set. French follows closely with 179 digs and is nearing her milestone of reaching her 1000th career dig. Bardouniotis ranks third on the team with an even hundred digs this season. Sophomore Eleanor Palmer leads in blocks with a conference-best average of 0.92 blocks per set.
The upcoming match marks the 53rd meeting between Illinois Wesleyan and Carthage (10-5, 3-0 CCIW), dating back to their first encounter in 1994. The Titans trail in their series against Carthage by a margin of 30-22 but aim to bounce back after losing their last meeting on September 20, where French recorded a team-high of thirteen kills.
