The Illinois State track and field team wrapped up their participation at the Gary Wieneke Memorial in Champaign, Illinois. The event saw notable performances from several athletes, including Charles Cruse, Devin Turner, and Madison Saunders.
Sophomore Charles Cruse achieved a personal milestone by clearing 5.15 meters (16-10.75) in the pole vault, tying for fifth-best in program history. Junior Devin Turner made his mark with a long jump of 7.63 meters (25-0.50), placing him fourth all-time at Illinois State.
The men's team recorded seven personal-best and nine season-best marks across various events. Notable performances included Noah Penry's personal bests in the 800m and 1,500m races, Charlie Kistner's personal best in the 1,500m, and Yusuf Baig's new record in the 5,000m. Garrett Taylor set a personal best in the discus throw with a distance of 51.58 meters (169-02).
Junior Madison Saunders excelled for the women's team by leaping into fourth place on the all-time list for triple jump with a distance of 12.41 meters (40-8.75). The women's team also saw strong performances from Cambria Geyer in the 400m race and Macy Byer in the discus throw.
The Redbird track and field squad will next compete at the Gibson Invitational in Terre Haute, Indiana, from April 11 to April 13.
