In Iowa City, the Illinois State Redbirds golf team is in contention for the title at the 2024 Hawkeye Invitational despite challenging conditions. The tournament's first day saw fluctuating performances influenced by strong winds.

Senior Parker Wisdom led the Redbirds, finishing three shots under par through two rounds and tying for sixth overall. Alex McCulla and Felix van Dijk each ended one shot under par, tied for 17th place. Will Troy finished even par, placing him in a tie for 26th.

The team leaderboard is topped by Wisconsin with a score of 558 after two rounds. Central Arkansas and TCU follow closely with scores of 563, ahead of Illinois State University (ISU). The host team Iowa scored 566, with Nebraska and South Dakota State both scoring 567 among others in the field of 16 schools.

Wisdom's performance included an even-par opening round followed by a strong second round where he remained under par. Van Dijk had a solid start but faced challenges towards the end of his first round before recovering to finish with a two-under score in his second round.

McCulla began well but struggled against the wind, ending his day one shot under par after steady play in his second round. Troy showcased resilience with two eagles across both rounds, maintaining an even-par score through consistent play.

Valentin Peugnet experienced highs and lows, starting five shots under par before concluding his first round at one-under due to late bogeys. His second-round efforts resulted in a three-over-par finish.

TJ Barger had an explosive start with an eagle but encountered difficulties later, finishing six over par in his second round after leading initially with a three-under 68.
