Illinois State University has announced the promotion of DeShaun Jordan to Associate Head Coach for its track and field program. The announcement was made by Jeff Bovee, Director of Track & Field and Cross Country at Illinois State.
"Coach Jordan's success as our sprints, hurdles, and relays coach over the years has been instrumental in our ability to win team titles at the Missouri Valley Conference Championships as well as raise our regional and national presence as a track and field program," Bovee stated. He emphasized Jordan's development from a former student-athlete to a mentor for current athletes, highlighting his dedication to ISU athletics.
Jordan has completed four seasons with the Redbird coaching staff, focusing on sprinters, men's hurdles, and relays. Before becoming an assistant coach, he served as a graduate assistant and volunteer assistant coach. His role also included managing team travel operations and organizing home meets.
"It's such an honor to be promoted to Associate Head Coach," Jordan expressed. "I have grown with this University and have had a front row seat to the many accomplishments we have obtained as a program."
Under Jordan's guidance, several student-athletes performed well at the 2024 MVC Outdoor Track & Field Championship, with some qualifying for the NCAA West Preliminary Round. Notable achievements include Raydoffa Braziel's victory in the 400m event and Lindsey Miller's win in the women's 100m dash.
Jordan was named the 2024 Missouri Valley Conference Men's Indoor Track & Field Assistant Coach of the Year. His athletes earned 41 points at the MVC Indoor Championships, with successes including Brandon Ratliff defending his title in the men's 60m hurdles.
Jordan joined Illinois State Track & Field in 2013 as a sprinter. He was part of the team that won their first conference indoor title in nearly two decades in 2018. He holds degrees from Illinois State in Political Science and Recreational Management and is certified as a USA Track & Field Level II coach.
