Illinois State University concluded its Spring Camp 2024 with the annual Spring Showcase Scrimmage, where the Red Team emerged victorious over the White Team with a score of 33-21 at Hancock Stadium. The event drew a substantial crowd of fans who enjoyed favorable weather conditions.
The scrimmage kicked off with Tommy Rittenhouse leading the Red Team on an impressive 8-play, 75-yard drive. This included a notable 28-yard pass to Javon Charles and a wide receiver pass from Eddie Kasper to Scotty Presson Jr. for 33 yards, culminating in a touchdown by Rylan Crawford.
The White Team responded promptly as Jake Rubley orchestrated a 7-play, 75-yard drive that featured a significant 23-yard run by Seth Glatz. The drive ended with Rubley connecting with Tommy Donovan for a 32-yard touchdown, giving the White Team an early lead.
The Red Team regained control with another successful drive spanning nine plays and covering 75 yards. A crucial play was Josh Robinson's 20-yard run, followed by Rittenhouse's scramble for a gain of 33 yards. Robinson then scored from one yard out.
Early in the second quarter, after Ian Wagner's impressive punt, the White Team drove 64 yards in seven plays. Glatz played a pivotal role again with a key run and eventually scored from one yard out, bringing the score to favor the White Team.
Before halftime, Rubley led another scoring effort for the Red Team after taking over possession near midfield. The drive concluded with Braden Contreras catching a touchdown pass from Rubley.
In the third quarter, Robinson added his second touchdown for the Red Team following a lengthy drive. The White Team answered quickly when Jimmy Makuh threw a long touchdown pass to Donovan.
The final score came in the fourth quarter as Rubley guided his team on another extended drive that ended with Ryan Leyden catching a short touchdown pass.
Key performers included Jake Rubley completing three touchdowns and accumulating 166 passing yards. Seth Glatz was instrumental in rushing for two touchdowns and gaining over 120 yards on the ground. On defense, Tye Niekamp made significant contributions with multiple tackles and sacks.
