The Illinois State men's tennis team kicked off their 2024-25 season at the River Forest Collegiate Tennis Invitational on Friday. The event, held in River Forest, Illinois, saw a Redbird advance to the finals in singles competition and a pair qualify for the final doubles flight. Matches will continue on Saturday at River Forest Park and Oak Park Tennis Center.
In doubles play, Tomas Valencia and Caden Scarlett secured a victory in the No.1 Draw with a 6-2 win over Jona Gitschel and Matteo Iaquinto from DePaul University. They are set to face Saul Berdullas and Sam Klein of Northern Illinois in the semifinals.
The singles matches were productive for the Redbirds as they won five first-round matches, advancing them to the semifinals. Adrian Dibildox emerged victorious in his semifinal match against Tobias Leitner of DePaul, securing his place in the championship flight.
Saturday's schedule includes two rounds of doubles play followed by two singles matches to conclude the invitational.
