The Illinois State Redbirds secured a series win against the Valparaiso Beacons with an 8-3 victory on Saturday. The team's overall record improved to 15-26, with a conference record of 9-7. During the game, the Redbirds achieved their second-highest hit count of the season with 14 hits.
Kaili Chval was a standout performer, going 4-for-4 and becoming only the second player this season to achieve four hits in a game for the Redbirds. Jayden Standish, Ella Boyer, and Abby Knight also had multiple hits, while Delainey Bryant extended her streak of reaching base to 25 consecutive games, tying for the longest active streak in the nation.
Offensive contributions included Chval's perfect day at bat and contributions from Standish, Knight, Boyer, and Bryant. Paige McLeod pitched all seven innings for her ninth win of the season.
Valparaiso initially took advantage of an error by Illinois State to score first. However, in the third inning, Illinois State responded with four runs. The team continued to add runs throughout the game while limiting Valparaiso's scoring opportunities.
Looking ahead, Illinois State will conclude their series against Valparaiso on Sunday before facing Bradley in an upcoming away game.
