The Illinois Wesleyan University cross country and track and field teams have had eight athletes recognized by the College Sports Communicators as Academic All-District honorees. The announcement, made on May 31, highlights five women and three men from the university's teams who have achieved this academic distinction for the first time.

Representing the men's team are senior J.D. Barrett, along with sophomores Brooks Johnson and Sam Okewole. On the women's side, junior Lauren Wong is joined by sophomores Annalese Chudy, Marissa Hagler, Franchesca Smith, and Evelyn Wilson in receiving these honors.

Barrett, a business administration major, has been part of both the cross country and track teams throughout his college career. His notable performances include being the top finisher in four out of six cross country races for his team. He also posted strong times in various events during both indoor and outdoor seasons.

Johnson is an accounting major who earned recognition at both indoor and outdoor College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) meets with his long jump performances. Meanwhile, Okewole, a computer science major, secured All-CCIW honors in triple jump competitions at both CCIW Indoor and Outdoor Championships.

On the women's team, Wong achieved an 11th-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in triple jump while securing several CCIW titles across different events. Chudy made history as a sophomore by qualifying for the NCAA Championship race during her cross country season; she consistently led her team across multiple meets.

Hagler majors in elementary education while balancing athletic achievements with advocacy work through her podcast focused on mental health topics. Smith excelled in triple jump events to earn All-CCIW honors indoors as well as outdoors this year.

Lastly among those honored was Wilson—a marketing major—who performed strongly enough to gain recognition within high jump categories at recent CCIW meets held indoors or outdoors alike.
