The Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf team commenced its spring season at the Jekyll Island Collegiate on March 22, 2024. The team finished the day with a score of eight-over-par 292 on the King & Prince Golf Course in St. Simons Island, Georgia.
Illinois Wesleyan trails the leader by eight shots after the first round. Rhodes College leads the 30-team competition with an even-par score of 284. Lynchburg and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps are second and third with scores of 289 and 291, respectively. Illinois Wesleyan is tied for fourth place alongside Washington & Lee and Sewanee.
Sophomore Michael Spitzer led Illinois Wesleyan with a one-under-par score of 70, placing him in a tie for sixth place individually. He is three strokes behind Andrew Watson from Lynchburg, who holds the lead with a four-under-par 67.
Another sophomore, Juney Bai, scored one-over-par to secure a share of 19th place. Fifth-year player Bobby Beaubien ended the day tied for 32nd with a two-over-par score of 73.
The team remains ranked fourth in the Bushnell/Golfweek Division III Coaches Poll as announced on March 22, retaining their position among unchanged top-four spots. Methodist University leads this poll followed closely by Emory University and Oglethorpe University.
