The Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf team extended its lead at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championship. The team shot a nine-under 279 on the second day of the event, held at WeaverRidge Golf Course in Peoria, Illinois. This performance has given them a 27-stroke lead over their competitors.
Bobby Beaubien, a fifth-year player from Barrington, Illinois, matched his previous day's score with a two-under 70, maintaining his position at the top of the leaderboard with a total score of 140. Sophomore Juney Bai from Mokena, Illinois, also scored two-under and is tied for second place alongside fellow sophomore Michael Spitzer from Hinsdale, Illinois. Spitzer delivered IWU's best round so far with a four-under 68.
Griffin Pohl and Quinn Clifford are also performing well for IWU. Pohl is in fourth place after shooting one-under 71, while Clifford is tied for seventh with a total score of 146.
In recent rankings by the Golf Coaches Association of America, IWU was placed fifth in the Bushnell/Golfweek Division III Top-25 Coaches Poll. Methodist holds the top spot in these rankings.
The final round of the championship is set for May 4. IWU aims to secure its twelfth consecutive conference title. The first tee-off will be at 9:30 a.m., starting with Quinn Clifford for IWU. Live scoring will be available through Golfstat links on iwusports.com.
