The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team is set to host Carthage College in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) contest on Wednesday, April 10. The game will take place at Tucci Stadium, beginning at 6 p.m.
Illinois Wesleyan holds a record of 5-6 overall and 0-1 in CCIW play. They are coming off a loss against the University of Chicago on April 6. In that match, sophomore Carleigh Fountain scored two goals for the Titans, while junior Bri Kiser made nine saves as the goalkeeper.
Senior Britney Maldonado has been leading the Titan offense this season. Her performance includes 47 assists, placing her third in Division III rankings. She is also second in assists per game with an average of 4.27 and ranks seventh in points with a total of 79 and an average of 7.18 points per game. Maldonado is close to breaking the program's single-season assists record set by Sam Bidlack in 2019.
Junior Mia Fiandaca stands second on the team with 31 goals and 34 points, followed by Fountain with 25 goals and 28 points.
In draw controls, sophomore Devon Hanson leads Illinois Wesleyan with 54, while Fiandaca follows with 33, and sophomore Sadie Newton has recorded 32. Hanson also leads the team in ground balls with a total of 33.
Defensively, Illinois Wesleyan ranks fifth nationally in caused turnovers per game with an average of 15.91. Fiandaca and Hanson have each recorded 29 caused turnovers this season.
Bri Kiser has been the mainstay in goal for the Titans, playing all minutes this season and achieving a .369 save percentage from her total of 103 saves.
This upcoming match marks the tenth meeting between IWU and Carthage College, with IWU holding a slight edge over Carthage at five wins to four losses. In their last encounter on April 29, 2023, Carthage won decisively with a scoreline of 23-9.
Carthage comes into this contest after securing a victory against Elmhurst University on April 6, bringing their record to seven wins and four losses overall and standing at one win without loss in CCIW play.
