Illinois Wesleyan University's softball team secured two victories against Wheaton College on Friday, May 3, in Wheaton, Illinois. The Titans ended the Thunder's senior day with decisive wins of 8-0 and 9-1 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.

In the first game, Illinois Wesleyan took an early lead with two runs in the opening inning. Junior Ava Khoury contributed significantly with a two-run single. Sophomore Claire Post added to the score with an RBI groundout. The Titans extended their lead further in the fifth inning, where they scored four more runs. Key players included freshman Elyssa Stenger, who loaded the bases, and sophomore Anna Beckman, whose double brought home two runners.

Wheaton attempted to respond in the fifth inning but was unable to score due to strong pitching from sophomore Gianna Certa. Certa allowed only three hits throughout the game and recorded four strikeouts.

In total, Illinois Wesleyan achieved 17 hits during this game. Khoury had a standout performance going 4-for-4 at bat with two RBIs.

The second game saw continued offensive strength from Illinois Wesleyan as they scored three runs in the first inning. Junior Jen Kuhn drove in a run with an RBI triple and later scored herself on a double by Casey Wissmiller.

The Titans maintained their lead into the third inning when Kuhn hit a solo home run. They sealed their victory with five more runs in the fifth inning. Senior Bailey Turner and senior Maya Black each contributed key hits that led to scoring opportunities.

Sophomore Caroline Gatchell pitched a complete game for Illinois Wesleyan, allowing just three hits while striking out two batters.

Kuhn's efforts were notable as she went 3-for-3 at bat, nearly achieving a cycle by falling just short of hitting a double.

Illinois Wesleyan will continue their season on May 4 with games against Augustana College starting at noon.
