The Illinois State University women's tennis team started the ITA Regionals with a strong performance. Junior Silvia Pomarolli secured a victory against Katya Shepard Johnson from Northwestern University, winning 6-3, 6-2. Pomarolli continued her success by defeating Reagan Welch of Northern Illinois University with scores of 6-1, 6-2, advancing to the round of 16.
Head coach Maja Kovacek expressed satisfaction with Pomarolli's play against power-five conference opponents. "I'm really happy with the way Silvia (Pomarolli) handled herself today. She was focused from the first point and did a great job with a few adjustments she needed to make," Kovacek stated.
In upcoming matches, junior Lana Caculovic is set to compete in the main draw starting at 9 am. Pomarolli will also return to face Tianna Rangan from the University of Wisconsin in the main draw. The ITA Regionals are hosted on Ohio State University's campus.
