Seniors Quinn Clifford and Griffin Pohl led the Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf team on the first day of the Golfweek October Classic in Sandestin, Florida. The Titans, ranked fourth nationally, posted a score of 280 at the Raven Golf Club, placing them fourth among 24 teams.
Clifford scored a four-under 67, securing a share of third place and trailing leaders Colin Edwards from Sewanee and Chase Walts from Methodist by one stroke. Pohl carded a two-under 69, tying for 17th place.
Sewanee, ranked 21st, leads the tournament with an opening round score of 272. Washington & Lee follows in second with 274, while Oglethorpe is third at 277. Illinois Wesleyan holds fourth place with their score of 280.
The competition continues tomorrow with live scoring available via Golfstat and results to be posted on iwusports.com after the round concludes.
