The Illinois State Swimming and Diving team is set to host Ohio University for a two-day meet on October 18-19. This event, known as the Redbird's Pink Meet, will focus on raising funds for Breast Cancer Awareness, with all donations directed to the OSF Healthcare Center.
During the meet at Horton Pool, attendees can purchase t-shirts for $20 each, with proceeds going to support breast cancer awareness efforts.
In their last outing on October 4 against Indiana State, Illinois State secured three titles. Eva Reyes won both the 1M and 3M diving events, while Chloe Tyler claimed victory in the 100-yard backstroke.
The upcoming weekend's schedule includes six events on Friday such as various strokes and relays along with the 3M Dive. Saturday will feature a more extensive lineup of 16 events including medley relays and diving competitions.
Notable performances from Illinois State athletes include junior Giulia Basco in the butterfly event and senior Sydney Hoff in breaststroke among others who placed in top positions during their first home meet.
Ohio University's Swim & Dive team recently achieved a win over Toledo University. They excelled in team events like the 1000-yard freestyle and medley relay.
Riley Hilbrandt joins Illinois State as head coach this season after three years at East Carolina. She emphasized consistency as key for success within their competitive conference: "ISU Swim & Dive has always had consistency. This season, staying consistent will be key."
Following this home meet series against Ohio University, Illinois State plans three consecutive road meets starting November 1 through December across various locations including Southern Illinois/Illinois-Champaign and Purdue before participating in US Open Greensboro N.C., December 4-7.
