Elise Fennell, a freshman golfer, made a notable debut at the Clash at Boulder Creek by tying the school record for the lowest round by a freshman with a score of 69. This performance places her tied for 11th after the first day of competition. Her classmate, Jessica Jolly, also performed well by tying her career-best with a score of 70, securing her a tie for 17th place.

The Illinois State Redbirds ended their opening round with a team score of 295, positioning them in 14th place. Fresno State leads the tournament with a score of 272, followed closely by San Francisco and Northern Arizona.

Fennell's round included six birdies and began with an initial bogey. Her achievement ties her with current teammate Dani Grace Schrock for the lowest freshman score in school history and ranks as the ninth-lowest single-round score overall at ISU.

Jolly managed to maintain consistency throughout her round, ending with three birdies and 16 pars after starting one shot over par. Lory Paradis marked her first appearance in the ISU lineup with an even-par opening round of 72, placing her tied for 30th individually.

Other notable performances include Jinyoung Yun’s two-over-par round of 74 and Morgan Jones and Alex Sparrow each scoring an opening round of 80.

The tournament continues tomorrow morning as ISU tees off alongside Cal State Fullerton and Southern Utah at Boulder Creek Golf Club.
