Illinois Wesleyan swim teams fall to Lewis University in season opener

The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's swimming and diving teams began their 2024-25 season with a dual meet against Lewis University on October 18. Competing in Romeoville, Illinois, both teams were defeated by the Flyers. The women's team concluded with a score of 166-41, while the men's team finished at 164-33.

The Titans secured ten third-place finishes across various events. In the mixed 200-yard medley relay, freshman Tate Thomas, junior Jay Jenkins, freshman Isabella Cano, and senior Emily Marks achieved a time of 1:50.60 to secure third place. Jenkins also placed third in the men's 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.70 seconds.

Cano had a strong performance in the women's events, finishing third in both the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.68 seconds and the 100-yard butterfly at 1:05.92. Marks earned third place in the women's 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:00.13.

Junior Kayliegh Kuschewski excelled in backstroke events, securing third place in both the women's 100-yard (1:04.72) and 200-yard backstroke (2:21.01). Fifth-year Carter Dilger completed the men's 100-yard butterfly in 55.48 seconds for another third-place finish, while freshman Jacob Nacional clocked a time of 2:12.53 in the men's 200-yard butterfly to achieve similar results.

Freshman Ben Huk rounded out IWU's top-three finishes by completing the men's 100-yard breaststroke in 1:10.60.

Illinois Wesleyan University will host its first home meet of the season at Fort Natatorium on October 26 during their Halloween Invite event.
