The Illinois State Swimming and Diving team concluded their competition against Ohio University with a mix of successes and challenges. Despite securing one diving win and four swimming victories, the Redbirds were defeated by the Bobcats in this non-conference meet, ending with a score of 273-139.
Key performances included senior Emma Feltzer winning both the 200 Yard Freestyle and the 100 Yard Freestyle events. Senior Eva Reyes took first place in the 1M Diving, while junior Chloe Tyler claimed victory in the 100-Yard Backstroke. Graduate student Cassidy Carey also excelled by winning the 200-Yard Backstroke.
During this event, held as part of the Breast Cancer Awareness Pink meet for the 2024-25 season, $1,750 was raised to benefit OSF Healthcare.
Head coach Riley Hilbrandt expressed satisfaction with her team's efforts: "The energy from both teams on deck this weekend was exactly what we needed to get our athletes ready for competition. Ohio is a very competitive team and our team stepped up to the challenge," she said. She highlighted that maintaining this level of energy and effort will be crucial for their upcoming meets against SIU and Illinois.
Other notable finishes included two Redbird teams placing in the top five during the 200-yard Medley Relay. In individual events, several swimmers secured top-five finishes across various categories such as Sydney Hoff in the 200 yard Breaststroke, Giulia Basco in the 200 yard Butterfly, and Lauren Wisdom in both the 1000 yard Freestyle and 500 yard Freestyle Relay.
In diving, Eva Reyes distinguished herself by taking first place in the 1-meter dive with a score of 290.25.
Looking ahead, Illinois State's next competitions are scheduled at Southern Illinois/Illinois-Champaign on November 1st, followed by meets at Purdue from November 22nd to November 23rd, and finally at the US Open in Greensboro N.C., from December 4th to December 7th.
