The Illinois State women's tennis team achieved a decisive victory over the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) with a 7-0 sweep in Cedar Falls, Iowa. This match was the first of two weekend competitions for the Redbirds in Iowa.
The Redbirds established an early lead by winning all three doubles matches, securing the doubles point. The No. 1 pair, Tijana Zlatanovic and Lana Caculovic, defeated Darta Dalecka and Lorena Cardoso with a score of 6-3. The No. 2 team, Silvia Pomarolli and Nevena Kolarevic, also won their match against Andrijana Brkic and Kanyanut Sudsaard by the same score. Nuria Sanz and Zoe Limparis completed the doubles sweep with a 6-1 victory over Issa Sullivan and Lasya Mylavarapu at the No. 3 position.
In singles play, Zlatanovic faced a challenge at the No. 1 spot after losing her first set to Brkic 3-6 but came back to win the second set 7-5 and triumphed in the third-set tiebreaker, 10-5. The rest of the singles matches were straightforward victories for Illinois State, who now hold an overall record of 14-6 and are 5-1 in conference play.
The Redbirds will conclude their weekend in Iowa with a match against Drake Bulldogs on Sunday at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center in Des Moines.
