After two away games to begin the 2024 season, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team is preparing for their home opener against Benedictine University. The game is scheduled for Wednesday, February 28, at Tucci Stadium and will start at 7 p.m. This event follows a match featuring the IWU women's lacrosse team.
The Titans aim to recover from a challenging start to the season, having lost their last game narrowly to Sewanee: The University of the South with a score of 13-12 on Saturday, February 24. Junior Sam Weinberg led IWU with four goals in that match. Seniors Ike Eastburn and Gage Black contributed three and two goals respectively. Freshman Timothy McHugh and seniors Trystan Seeley and Jayden Erie each scored once. In goal, junior Colin Tervo made 15 saves.
Last year on this same date, IWU faced Benedictine in a game where they secured a decisive 19-10 victory. Six current players were involved in scoring those goals while goalkeeper Tervo recorded 11 saves during that encounter. Historically, IWU has won all three matches against Benedictine with an average of 24 goals per game.
The upcoming home opener will be available for fans through live stats and live streaming services accessible via iwusports.com or directly from the men's lacrosse schedule page.
