After a competitive match, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team emerged victorious over Elmhurst University with a 15-13 win. This victory, achieved on senior day, ensures that the Titans remain undefeated in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) and clinch at least a share of the CCIW Regular Season Championship title. The Titans' record now stands at 10-3 overall and 4-0 in conference play, while Elmhurst's record is also 10-3 but 2-1 in the CCIW.
Sophomore Noah Dretzka and senior Trystan Seeley led the Titans with five points each. Dretzka contributed three assists and two goals, while four players scored hat tricks: Seeley, senior Gage Black, junior Sam Weinberg, and freshman Jake Kahoun. Junior Sam Skelton excelled defensively with four caused turnovers and five ground balls. Goalkeeper Colin Tervo played nearly the entire game, securing nine saves and six ground balls to earn his tenth win of the season.
The Titans started strong with an early goal from Kahoun within the first minute. Seeley's subsequent goal gave IWU a lead they maintained throughout much of the game. Despite attempts by Elmhurst to close the gap, including a series of goals bringing them within one point at various stages, IWU consistently responded to maintain their advantage.
Elmhurst opened scoring in both halves but was met with immediate responses from IWU. The Titans extended their lead during key moments thanks to strategic plays involving Dretzka and Seeley among others.
In the final quarter, despite Elmhurst's efforts to outscore IWU 4-2, Illinois Wesleyan held onto their lead for a decisive win.
Illinois Wesleyan will conclude its regular season against Carroll University next Saturday in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
