Illinois Wesleyan swimmers fall to Washington University at annual IWU Invite

The Illinois Wesleyan University swimming and diving teams faced off against Washington University in St. Louis at the IWU Invite on November 18, 2023. Despite their efforts, both the men's and women's teams were defeated by the Bears, with scores of 156-91 for the men and 181-93 for the women.

Senior Ethan Lowder from Bloomington emerged as a standout performer for the IWU men's team. He secured first place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.86 seconds and took second place in the 100-yard freestyle, clocking in at 48.86 seconds. Junior Alex Kula also contributed with a third-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly, completing it in 54.81 seconds. Lowder and Kula later joined forces with sophomore Sam Fogarty and freshman Rylan Nelson to achieve a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:29.18.

On the women's side, junior Hadley Fudge excelled by winning first place in the 100-yard backstroke event with a time of 1:07.89. She also earned third place finishes in both the 200-yard backstroke (2:14.69) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:15.63). Freshman Olivia Kula finished third in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:02.92, while senior Lauren Feddersen claimed third place in the 200-yard breaststroke at 2:35.17.

Looking ahead, both teams are set to compete next at Kenosha for a CCIW conference meet during the Carthage Classic starting Thursday, November 30.
